Toyota’s Ugliest Cars From the Past

It’s fun to admit when you are wrong. Sometimes car companies are so stubborn that they keep on making the same ol’ ugly cars for years before they finally give in. Trust me, we hear it all the time about Toyota favorites and Toyota blunders. We compiled a list of your least favorite Toyota models from the past. 1984 Toyota Van Yeah, so that happened. It was a bus with four awkwardly-positioned tires underneath the middle of the van. When we say it was sharp, we mean the nose came to a point. By no means was it as sharp looking as our Sienna. However, if you were feeling like entertaining a few friends or your family needed cold beverages on the way to the public pool, the LE option allowed consumers to add an icemaker that was cooled by the A/C refrigerant lines. Too bad the Previa lost the feature here in the states in the 90s. 1994 Toyota RAV4 The RAV4 has come a long way. Thank goodness. The crossover looked like a cross between a bubble and a nose when it was first released. The company released the RAV4 to appeal to more women, but they weren’t impressed. Disappointing sales pushed Toyota to rethink the crossover. Now look. We are doing much better. Toyota Yaris Verso The US was spared, but overseas they had the chance to feast their eyes on the Toyota Yaris Verso. Sorry about that. How do we describe the strange creature? It has a short, stubby nose, and a strangely tall hatch. Toyota made the vehicle between 2000 and 2004. The MPV van had five doors, and in some markets it had a four-wheel-drive drivetrain.

How to Get Over Snow Anxiety

Whether you are new to the area or a seasoned snow driver, driving on ice and snow can be challenging and downright nauseating. Sliding tires, loss of traction, speeding cars, and icy roads all edge us closer and closer to an anxiety attack. What are the best strategies to conquer winter-driving phobia? Signs You May Have Winter-Driving Anxiety You know the feeling when you see the weather forecast or look out the window and see the white stuff. If you have anxiety, you will recognize the obsessive habits. Checking your phone or the weather constantly Calling in sick to avoid driving Hyperventilating when behind the wheel Rapid heartbeat and sweating when driving Crying when driving or thinking about driving Tips to Help You Manage Snow Driving Anxiety If you become anxious when you have to drive in the snow, consider a few tips to make your drive a little easier and stress-free. Don’t start the drive with dread. You need to put yourself in the mindset to drive. Talk to yourself to calm yourself down. Remind yourself that you are going to make it and that you are a confident, capable driver. If you feel anxious, take at least three deep breaths. Leave early. Give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination. If you have to, leave before or after commuting traffic is less severe on the road. When you are driving, don’t allow panicked reactions to drive the car. You are in control. Many times your initial reaction is to slam on the brakes, but your brakes can do more harm than good in many situations. Practice safe-driving techniques: stay at least 12 seconds behind the car in front of you, accelerate slowly, give yourself extra time to stop, and slow way down before you turn or move to the side, and wear your seatbelt. Take a driver’s education class that focuses on winter driving.

Why is My Gas Mileage Dropping?

When we buy our new vehicles, one of the features that drives us to certain models is the fuel economy rating. If you drive a Toyota, you are getting some of the best range in the industry. Have you noticed you can’t drive as far as you could just a few months ago? Bennett Toyota technicians answer common questions about fuel economy range. Will Premium Improve Fuel Economy? Premium fuel has a higher octane rating, which makes the car more resistant to preignition. Preignition is a problem most common with high performance cars, not your every-day commuter. High-octane fuel will only cost you more money per gallon; it won’t allow you to drive further. Why is My Gas Mileage Dropping? If you are noticing a dip in mileage, answer a few questions to identify the problem: Do you speed? Yep, one of the biggest reasons for poor fuel economy is a lead foot. Follow the posted speed limit signs, don’t drive aggressively, and quit stopping abruptly. Are your tires properly inflated? Get out the air pressure gauge and check the pressure. You can find the recommended air pressure in your owner’s manual or inside the driver’s side doorjamb. Are any of your dash lights on? If so, you need to head to the shop right away. The Toyota technicians will hook up your car and run the codes to see what the problem is. Fuel Economy Myths If your fuel economy is dropping, don’t believe common fuel economy myths: Your car needs to be warmed up in the morning Gas from no-name stations is bad Filling up when it’s cold outside improves mileage The air filter is dirty (this is only true for older carbureted engines)

Car Care Tips for Fall

The crisp in the air means one thing: fall is here. We are thrilled to see the leaves change, the holiday coffee blends, and the cooler temps. Not to mention the football games on nearly every day. Fall is also a time to brush up on maintenance and service to prepare your car for the cooler temperatures. This fall, head over to Bennett Toyota service department for fall maintenance. Fall Car Care Tasks The following tasks are a few of the most important to avoid a breakdown or accident: Improve visibility Visibility is critical during all seasons. To improve visibility, inspect all the lights around your car, inspect the rubber on your windshield wipers, top off the windshield wiper fluid with a cold-weather blend, and if your lenses are scratched and cloudy, have the lenses polished. Stay warm Now is the time to inspect the heater before the cold really takes hold. Test the heater and the defroster. If you have heated seats, test the seats and make sure the fuses are still in good shape. Protect the paint Many drivers choose to wash and wax their cars in the fall. During fall, the sap falls, leaves fall, and more debris is on the road. Change the oil Oil is essential for your car’s optimal performance. Bring your car in for an oil and filter change. While you are here, we will inspect the hoses and belts, and top off the other fluids in your car. Inspect tires and brakes This fall, take your car in for a tire rotation. While at the shop, the technicians will inspect the tire tread and look at your brakes.

Beware of Fall Diving Hazards

Fall is upon us, which means its time for watching the leaves change color, kids heading back to school and cooler weather. With the positives must come negatives. When fall hits, it brings with it a whole new set of dangers on the road. Take these tips from Bennett Toyota on how to handle fall driving hazards: Proceed With Caution Over Bridges As the fall ushers in the colder temperatures, bridges can be quite dangerous. Since a bridge is exposed to weather on the bottom and top, they freeze before the rest of the road. Unfortunately, you might not realize it until it is too late and you've hit a patch of ice. When making the transition from pavement to bridge, slow down, steer smoothly and brake gently. Watch Out for Leaves on the Road Leaves are a beautiful part of fall, and they can make the scenery quite spectacular. As you get deeper into the season, those leaves fall off the trees and blanket the roads. When approaching a pile of leaves, especially on the highway at great speeds, remember the leaves can be wet and become slippery. Quick acceleration, hard braking or sudden turns should be avoided because your vehicle can skid. There may also be hidden pools of water or ice under the leaves as well as a deep pothole. Be sure to watch out for “leaf peepers” who are paying more attention to the foliage than the roads. Prepare for Heavy Rainstorms Rainstorms in the fall tend to be heavy and sudden. When you're on the highways in early fall, you must be careful of rubber and oil that have built up on the surface over the summer. This causes the road to be slippery when wet. Its not util you have a few heavy downpours that the roads get clear and safe. Remember Bennett Toyota's safe driving tips this fall to keep you and your family safe!
